From the heart…

Marcia TaylorResearch shows that dance is one of the most beneficial activities for children ages 3 to 5 – proven physical, cognitive and social benefits. However, I know there are little girls and boys who never have the opportunity to experience the joy of dance

class because of a perception of cost. They hear of expensive costuming, pricey classes, and huge dance competition fees (I am proud that has never been our Studio).
I want every child to be able to experience the magic of dance, so our 3-5 year-old Creative Movement Classes are affordable for any family, only $18 per month; our Studio also will provide these dancers with a high quality free dance class leotard; and they will not have to purchase costuming for our recitals.
I believe we have a responsibility to use our gifts, so, utilizing my degrees in both dance and early childhood education, my experience as past instructor of Kansas City’s Young Audience Program and past Director of the D.A.N.C.E. (Dance Awareness Nurturing Childhood Education) Program serving communities in three states, and, most importantly, my love for these little dancers, I personally teach these young dancers, just as I taught my own daughter, Skyler, who became a professional dancer, my daughter, Callan, who is a professional basketball player (she credits dance with much of her success in athletics), and my son, Matt (he was so much fun in dance class), who was a two-sport athlete in college (please, don’t overlook the value of dance for boys ages 3 to 5).
Please pass this note on to any parent or institution or organization you think would be interested in our ages 3-5 Creative Movement Classes – I will even open up additional class sections if needed. They can simply call 816-808-0839, e-mail dancestudiopim@aol.com, or easily register at www.dancestudioofiowa.com.

My best regards,
Marcia Taylor, Director

Policy Regarding Number of Class Meetings for 2017-18 Fall/Spring Semesters

This is a reminder that our dance classes resume at the Pella studio the week of January 8 and 9. This means that a total of 33 class offerings (note: our fall and spring major rehearsals are considered class offerings) are on the schedule for the 2017-18 Fall/Spring dance season. Since we guarantee 31 class offerings each year, this means if all of these classes take place without any weather cancellations, students will receive two bonus class meetings. The first two weather cancellation for any class, then, will not need to be made up; however, if there are more than 2 such weather cancellation, we will schedule makeup sessions for such classes. The full spring schedule is now posted on our www.dancestudioofiowa.com web site and Dance Studio of Iowa Facebook page.

2018 Annual Winter Dance Performances

Our 2018 Annual Winter Dance Performances will be Saturday, January 20, at the Pella Community Center Auditorium (the site of last year’s Christmas Performance and Spring Showcase). It will be a combination “Christmas/Dance Before the Lord/Winter” dance performance. Some classes will be in the 4:00 p.m. performance, and some will be in the 7:00 p.m. performance (two to three of our advanced classes will perform at both). Dancers should arrive dressed for their first dance 15-20 minutes before the start of their show. Doors will open for the audience 25 minutes before the start of each performance, but not before. Tickets will be $5 each and will initially be limited to 6 tickets per family (families with a dancer or dancers in both performances will receive 2 free tickets to the performance of their choice that will count toward their 6 tickets for that performance). Rehearsal will be that same Saturday at the same site as follows: 4:00 Only Performance dancers will rehearse 9:00-10:30 a.m.; the 2-3 advanced dance classes who are in both performances will rehearse 10:00-12:30 p.m.; and 7:00 Only Performance dancers will rehearse 11:00-12:30 p.m. We will provide complete details, including which classes are in which performances, as well as costuming information within the next week or so.

Thank you,
Marcia Taylor
Director of Dance
